The French were moaning on twitter yesterday that you have to pay through the nose in America to get average European standard food.

There are more frugal options available for 15yr old Wisconsin Cheddar, but you tend to get what you pay for.

Only Frogs would come to America to eat European food and complain it costs too much. But yeah, French cooking here generally falls under fine dining.
