"Fire and brimstone" was never meant as a literal description of how "Sodom and Gomorrah" would be "cleansed".

That is an interesting comment, but we are seeing the destruction of today's Babylon.

Sodom, spiritually-speaking, is the great city Jerusalem, where also our Lord was crucified. That city has rejected Jesus Christ and continues to do so, as they prepare to build a third temple and resume sacrificing animals. For them, the sacrifice of Jesus Christ was not "good enough".

From what I can tell, the bible is simply a compendium of primitive (yet, insightful) cogitations made by thinkers throughout the Ages; thus, rather accurately psychoanalysing the "human condition"... Even if only in a metaphorical, often embellished (Jews have always been renowned raconteurs), and non-literal manner.

"Sodom and Gomorrah" may well be based on some literal account of a fascistic religio-cleansing of a group of perceived "degenerates"... But, its actual lesson lies in how well it describes the human propensity falling down the "slippery slope" of hedonism and a self-centred existence.
