Three men fell to their death during the construction of the Verrazzano-Narrows Bridge. (This bridge connects the New York City boroughs of Staten Island and Brooklyn. It was in the news today for being approached by a massive container ship that lost power.)

Many years ago, when they built monuments like the Golden Gate Bridge or Hoover Dam, they used to estimate the number of folks that would get killed on the job.

Today’s construction is different. The goal is zero injuries. And it can be achieved. I worked on a $600 million project as an engineer. We had no injuries! I still have the award they gave us management folks.
