Twitter caught some of his Instagram account before it got scrubbed, but it happened quick. By the time I learned of his identity -- and I was following the story within 15 minutes of it breaking -- it was already gone.

The shooter was 17. If they were transgender they would have been affected by Iowa's law against gender affirming care for people under 18, that was enacted in March.

It will be interesting to see if there's a trend in mass shootings by young transgender people in states with newly minted oppressive laws, that condemn them go through puberty without gender affirming care.

I don't think that we have enough data yet.

But passing laws that make providing medical care to people illegal is pretty fucked up, and I find it plausible that it may affect the mental state of the people affected.

Pumping a man full of estrogen is guaranteed to fuck them up. Cutting their balls off will not help.

There has been an upward trend in both the considered and attempted suicide rate since 2000, when 61 percent of transgender people considered committing suicide and 28 percent had attempted it.

If you mean that gender affirming care has negative psychological effects, you're mistaken. There's a stack of literature on this, but Here's an example.

Gender affirming care ameliorates suicidal ideation in transgender people.

Suicide in a 17 year old without a terminal illness isn't a rational decision. But without gender affirming care, irreversible things would have been happening to them, and it's plausible that that affected their mental state.

Especially if they had been receiving care prior to March.
