I'd like to see Smollet see prison time too but not on disorderly conduct charges. You tell a cop to go fuck himself, and that's going to be disorderly conduct after they're done beating you.

it will save tax payer money if this makes others afraid to stage hoaxes in the future

There will still be hoaxes, now people will be less likely to come clean if it's a hoax and they will see it all the way through because they're facing prison anyway at the expense of the tax payer's money.
