Hiding the truth doesn't make it go away.

What does a thumbs down have to do with the truth?

Don't be obtuse.

Don't be intentionally misleading. Videos and comments are still present if it's being down voted.

Still obtuse. Obviously the truth being referred to in:
is the truth that the downvote button was clicked X times, since that number is what's being hidden.

emphasis on "ahead of coming regulations"

Seems to be a lefty trend. Reddit did this years ago. Even Saidit does it, which is the one thing about this site I don't like.
Not sure why. I feel like it's meant to form a hivemind.
If you don't see any dislikes, it subtly encourages you to like it, or leave the channel.

Saidit has replaced the dislike button with the ability to call someone a NiggerFaggotRetard and that is definitely a positive change. It makes Saiditors have to engage in actual debate with others, even if it is nothing but expressing disbelief at how big a FaggotyNiggerRetard they are.
[–]Node 3 insightful - 2 fun3 insightful - 1 fun4 insightful - 1 fun4 insightful - 2 fun - 2 years ago (3 children)
But there is a downside. It seems the ability to call a NiggerFaggotRetard by name can attract an unfortunate number of retarded teenagers, who do just that. Then your userbase begins to shed the intelligent, and you end up with mostly annoying kids. New voat seems like an example of that, despite some of the old goats still being there.
However, their 'hot' front page is getting more comments than we are on saidit, so the dynamic is more complex than just downvotes and retard-naming.
[–]Tiwaking 1 insightful - 1 fun1 insightful - 0 fun2 insightful - 0 fun2 insightful - 1 fun - 2 years ago (2 children)
True. But if the vast majority of your userbase (cough voat cough) is calling everyone a NiggerFaggotRetard then the problem might not be the platform. It will be the users. SaidIt thankfully restricts and punishes personal attacks in Pyramid of Debate. If SaidIt had dislikes then users like socks would be downvoted into oblivion. At the moment, everyone who hasnt outright blocked him just call him a filthy shill and point out how wrong he is. This is much more productive than memory holing his opinions.

the problem might not be the platform. It will be the users.
Disagree. "Platforms" provide a place to present your beliefs. With no other criteria, shills and trolls are free to present their lies and disinformation as facts.

Well that does explain Twitter then

We can identify danger, when a community comes together and expresses unacceptace of a thing, in a world that is increasing digital, losing this virtual tool to signal community disapproval (downvotes) is a soft form of fascism.

Can't fabricate social media consent with a dislike button there to call bullshit on you...

But YouTube believes the change will better protect its creators from harassment and reduce the threat of what it calls “dislike attacks” — essentially, when a group teams up to drive up the number of dislikes a video receives. The company says that while dislike counts won’t be visible to the public, it’s not removing the dislike button itself. Users can still click the thumbs down button on videos to signal their dislike to creators privately. Meanwhile, creators will be able to track their dislikes in YouTube Studio alongside other analytics about their video’s performance, if they choose.

So they think showing dislikes somehow hurts the creator of the video.
But they're still allowing users to dislike videos?
And they're still showing the true dislike count to creators?
And users who participate in these "dislike attacks" will know this?
Youtube is being run by chimps. Literal knuckle dragging chimps.

Hey stop that! Chimps are intelligent and friendly creatures. Two things these mentally deranged degenerates are not.

they'll get rid of the comment section eventually too. Places like reddit have a tough time, what are they besides comments and up and down votes? It's all mostly fake now as people leave in droves. You can't censor and be popular, people hate it.
