This man Darwin'd off the planet. I'm a 2A supporter, I support open carry. I don't support moronic behaviour.

If it is true that this man simply wanted to practice open carry as a secondary to his blm support, he should have understood his environment much better. The man knew he was attending a protest. The man knew (we know this from his own commentary) that some number of people oppose the protest--he called those people pussies who hated the protestors. So he goes into a charged environment, claiming to have a secondary task of supporting a Constitutional right. Ok, maybe not the best time to mix and match, but whatever, it can be done if you do a little thinking.

Speaking of thinking, he didn't do any. My biggest problem is how he carried the firearm. If his purpose was to support 2A, he should have had carried the firearm in a crossbody, weak or strong-side sling position. Again, if the point is to just say hey, I have this right to bring my firearm outside, no need for any aggressive stance. But many pictures and video show him carrying in tactical and alert positions. Tactical and Alert positions are far more intimidating than say, a weak-side sling, barrel down position.

I guarantee you, had he approached the car in a weak-side sling position and the driver still fired on him, that driver would already be charged with a crime, likely some level of murder.

This imbecile, who I'm supposed to believe supports 2A, showed zero common sense and zero discipline. He's dead because he was larping as some kind of street commando. I have sympathy for him and for his family. It has to suck to die and to lose a loved one to larping.

And as a side note, he also showed that he was lying about supporting 2A. He clearly used a show of force. If his intention was to support 2A, he would have focused on the importance of not getting involved or escalating any kind of aggression. He would want to make open carry look safe and non-threatening. He was carrying that weapon because he was playing soldier and loving the attention. This is one of the DUMBEST reasons to open carry.

He's not the only person to make this type of open carry mistake. Some say he's a good guy, a Libertarian. Who fucking cares what his political orientation is. I can find video after video from people across the political spectrum, making similar mistakes--Foster just happens to have died because of it.

This man is not to be admired or followed, he is to be pitied and used as an example of what not to do. His mother and all those who loved him now suffer...and for what? So he could play commando, name call his opponents and point a 7.62mm rifle at a person using their car...on a road. I know, what an odd place for a car.

Edit: If you are a blm supporter OR you are heading to ANY protest and feel the need to support 2A at the same time:

  1. If you are carrying a rifle, go with a sling position. I recommend crossbody, muzzle down <--Won't wear your arms out.
  2. Know your environment. Are you in Syria, or in Blue-ass Austin Texas. (choose your carry position accordingly)
  3. Never point at anything you do NOT intend to shoot.
  4. Know that your open carry is no smarter than telegraphing a punch. The enemy sees it coming and can plan for it.
  5. If you find yourself in the position of Foster, let your last words be, I'm an idiot, do not follow. If you can't save your own life, save another.

Would you feel the same way about those lockdown protestors in Michigan that walked into the capitol building and were photographed in those same stances had they been shot? Honestly, it's a pretty standard stance for any sort of 2A protest. Just searching protesters holding guns returns mostly guys in the same stance.

Here is how I feel about open carry.

  1. It makes the person in open carry the first target. It's basically only useful in a combat environment where the enemy is expecting arms no matter what.

  2. If a person insists on open carry to support 2A, I do not care what their political background is, please make the rest of us gun owners look sane. Learn the sling arms positions and carry in one of those. If you are in open carry for anything other than a combat purpose, sling arms should suffice.

Political orientation has exactly nothing to do with my position, larping happens across the board. In short, if you aren't carrying due to a known and expected threat, please don't choose an aggressive stance--every 2A supporter will benefit.
