Heck of a song. I found some info on genius.com about this "Bill" that gets mentioned.

Bill Goodman, under the name Dickie Goodman, made a record in the 50s that was sort of a story telling about aliens arriving on Earth, recorded as a news bulletin. The announcer reports on the event and interviews various people (including the aliens), whose responses are samples from rock and roll songs of the 50s. It’s sort of a tribute to The War of the Worlds, a similar show recorded by Orson Welles) that incited a panic.

I didn't know anything about that, lots of interesting tangents to explore. Thanks for posting the link!

I've really like the Pixies for a few years, but just stumbled on this song. Sweet to find a song that grabs you. Plus, a bit synchronistic in that I've been lurking a bit in r/soulnexus and "the happening" is mentioned frequently.

Amen to that. How about The Happening the movie? I loved it although it is generally disliked. It's like nature mysteriously killing humanity for a few days.

I've never seen it, may try to check it out this weekend. Didn't see it at the time because of the negative reviews, back then I believed a lot of what the "they" said.
