It's an ethnicity.

Jews are a completely separate race from whites. Don't believe me? Try to immigrate to Israel. They'll cut you off real fast if you're not ethnically Jewish.

Wrong, I can convert to Judaism. Jews can be of all types of races/ethnicities.

Israel just wants to figure out who is a 'worthy' Sephardi or Ashkenazi Jew, converts who descend from pagan Khazars, even Cossacks have Khazar blood. It doesn't actually make them a Jew. Only Judaism does, and believing your a Jew and upholding its backwards teachings.
