I know that in my field the BBC is where you go to work when your ambition has died and you just want a nice easy life. The wages are low compared to every other company (some times half or less) but it's safe, steady work. No wonder the people who choose to work there also are happy to sign up to whatever the latest PC worldview is and avoid upsetting anyone important.
