Sitting in a low distraction environment forces you to self reflect, and for many of us it can become very unpleasant. Thinking about painful memories or about where your character falls short is unpleasant and the brain actively seeks to avoid it. And today thanks to cell phones and computers it is even easier to avoid spending time with one's thoughts. This is not a step forward.

Or, solitary confinement is torture.

Fucking dick head.

It's not really solitary if he's still tweeting.

It's pure manipulation.

We can argue how much is true, and how much is not.

But dude above was like “ah, he’s having a little self reflection time”.

What you're really afraid of even more than that is blocked/suppressed memories of the true nature of this existence...and it isn't pretty. Think about it and you'll inevitably conclude it's rotten to the core. Studies have shown that "depressed" people are actually just realists who can't wear humanity's rose-colored glasses. Even deeper than that you have the matrix...I'm already throwing too much at you at once.

It is true that people with high IQs sometimes can't live with their level of knowledge and understanding of the futility of their sad, little existences and they decide to off themselves exactly because life is so meaningless. OTOH regular people who are depressed are more likely to just be suffering some chemical imbalance or emotional trauma. It doesn't mean they are incapable of recognizing how shitty life really is, they're just depressed for other reasons as well.

Other hyper intelligent or gifted/talented individuals remain positive about life and are inspired to attempt great works right to their final breath. Death is the only absolute truth of our existence after all. So what you choose to make of your short time until you die is completely up to you.

are more likely to just be suffering some chemical imbalance

The old 1950s chemical imbalance theory of depression just got pulled out again in the 90s as an excuse to sell billions and billions of dollars in antidepressants with a class of drugs that more times than not did not perform favorably compared to placebo. All those drugs have the same basic results despite doing wildly different things to neurochemicals.

Psychology journals don't say anything about chemical imbalances anymore.

As long as they continue to prescribe meds for depression then I'm going to argue that the notion of a chemical imbalance still has some traction. Besides those same journals no longer call gender dysphoria a mental illness. Are your sure deferring to their authority is a wise choice?

The absolute truth to this existence is clearly the matrix.

Man, you are really into this Matrix. Are we talking Red Pill-Blue Pill & Neo? Or the general concept of life as a simulation?

What's the difference?

Who is posting this if he doesn't have access to a phone or computer?

His cousin.

That confused me too. But he said it's only for an hour.

[–]Gravi 2 insightful - 3 fun2 insightful - 2 fun3 insightful - 3 fun -  (0 children)

Why would I do that? Waste one hour of my life.

[–]proc0 2 insightful - 2 fun2 insightful - 1 fun3 insightful - 2 fun -  (1 child)

Why would you pick the bathroom, just sit quietly outside somewhere. So dumb.

If you're sharing a hotel room and you can't sleep, and in various other situations, the bathroom is a handy place to drink.
