Are you drunk?

Again.
Wish I could get drunk.

Why can't you get drunk?
[–]JasonCarswell 4 insightful - 4 fun4 insightful - 3 fun5 insightful - 3 fun5 insightful - 4 fun - 3 years ago (10 children)
I play a superhero on SaidIt but I'm just a normal human - so it's not a super power.
I can't afford to get drunk. I scrape by monthly, worse now with the 2020 shrinkflation. That's why I must leave SaidIt for a while soon to try earn some extra.

All you need is sugar, yeast, water, and time for booze. Didn't we talk about wine and beer making a while back? You can use literal scraps for flavoring like they do with pineapple in tepache. Cheap fruits or juices on sale are perfect for it.
You don't even need to buy yeast either. Although using something coated in wild yeast (grapes, apple skins, pineapple skin, ginger root is a big one) helps rather than just hoping it catches something good from the air, although that works too ala Amish friendship bread style.
edit: although I wouldn't ferment orange juice, that doesn't turn out good.

Okay, you've convinced me. I still haven't finished setting up my garden.
I guess I should buy big vessels for it too. You don't happen to have some trustworthy YouTube recommendations on hand?

I ferment my booze in 1 gallon jugs but if you're going the juice route, you can ferment inside the container it comes in. There's even a number of ways to do it without airlocks. reddit.com/r/prisonhooch, r/winemaking, and r/homebrewing are all good resources. The first is really handy for making booze on a budget, despite the name there's some decent stuff there, and some crap too. But it's all alcohol.
A bigger container would be handy for me but I don't have the room.
I prefer to read than to watch videos, but this is a really good one on making tepache and all that carries over to basic winemaking. Although I find it's easier to use a gallon ziplock freezer bag and periodically burp it than to bother sticking it all in glass. It's a r/prisonhooch method but it's convenient for handling the scraps of one pineapple.
The other benefit to making your own wine is you don't have to add sulfites, tannins, other chemical crap, if you don't want to. Particularly if you plan on drinking the wine young rather than aging for a year or more.
edit: sorry for reddit links, but that's the ones I know. There's a homebrewing forum but it's a higher learning curve.

And stovetop stills are available online for very reasonable prices too. You can get two or three people to go in on one still. I think someone on this thread told me about the stills using a different persona. Thanks. Oh, and it is legal to make booze at home as long as you don't sell it but laws don't mean much nowadays.

Is it designed for making booze? I wouldn't want it to explode when you use it. Don't buy it from Amazon but you can see what's available on there and get an idea of the design. As I remember the smallest was eight gallons and that is a lot of booze: about 32 litres. Here is one that apparently makes moonshine, wine, and beer for US $195. That's a little pricey but you could make that price back with two batches. Have you ever had pure corn liquor? Mighty tasty: https://www.amazon.com/Automatic-Distiller-Temperature-Adjustment-Fermentation/dp/B081LJK5Y2/ref=sr_1_1?dchild=1&keywords=eight+gallon+still&qid=1607840382&sr=8-1

Thanks for explaining.
I think it goes even deeper. They are selling a product that A) is fun, B) makes you stupid, C) lowers your inhibitions, and D) can be abused - among other things. You simply can't advertise B, C, or D to the masses. Perhaps to niche groups with a sense of humour and adventure, but most people aren't seeking adventure in their drinking nor share any common humour - especially in this era.
The best they can to is approximate the feeling of fun or whatever proxy vibe or attitude the brand can muster worth promoting for greater sales. Sadly this is much of what advertising is now - feelings, often misleading or deceptive. Not about information, quality, etc. As you point out, we are in a world of hurt, and striving for these good feelings are all many have left.

I don't see benefits in culturally changing B) makes you stupid, C) lowers your inhibitions, and D) can be abused into higher qualities, but I love your idea asking what should we change ourselves into rather than being reprogrammed by them or by circumstances.
B) makes you stupid, C) lowers your inhibitions, and D) can be abused
THAT, my friend, is the Zillion dollar question, and a nuanced part of the essence of my Bittersweet Seeds story. You summed it up finely. IMO, you should post that.
Interesting idea on PSTD. I think one of my cats has PSTD.
