Yes, but it starts at a federal level. If public banking is attached to money backed by government bonds then it essentially maintains permanent public debt. Decentralized Public banking based on silver ceetificates and indepedent treasuries and holding houses are a far better option in my honest opinion.

Why settle for certificates that can be corrupted or fake? Many wonder if there's even any gold at Fort Knox. Better to have the real thing in your vaults. But ya, I agree with you - the federal money is a problem - thus alt local currencies. There's absolutely no reason there can't be many simultaneously - and there's no reason our pocket calculators can't do quick conversions on the fly.
