Except that the prime reason for the planetary extent of livestock is that vast tracts of the Earth consist of grass and scrub — food humans cannot eat, but which Daisy and her ilk can turn into nutritious meat and dairy, stuff that humans can chow.

Not nearly enough to keep up with demand. The vast majority of cows (about 95% in the US) are fed on corn and soy.

A litre of almond milk drink requires 158 litres of water, or 20 times as much as dairy.

A liter of cow's milk requires over 600 liters of water as input.

Large swathes of the Amazon have been burned to make way for soy farms, and the soy goes into alt-milk as well as the cattle feed.

The vast majority of soy that's grown goes toward feeding livestock.

So you get 7g of sugar with a single serving of Oatly Original. Hence US blogger Nat Eliason’s famous assertion that Oatly is “The New Coke”.

Whole milk has 12!

Uuuuuhhh, what farm did you engage with?

1 - the only reason they are is because it is cheaper. And because most of the MEAT is industrial farmed, meaning they don't have access to paddocks. However, 95% of dairy cows are not alternative fed. You can not get enough milk unless at least 50% is fibrous grasses.

2 - A cow does not drink 600 liters of milk a day. That is car accident brain damage talk.

3 - a distinction between soy plant and soy beans are needed here. Further, feeding actual soy beans to live stock is dangerous due to excessive nutrients

4 - a distinction between sugar and carbohydrates are needed here. Natural sugars in general are fine.

I wouldn't mind seeing any one of those annoying faces on a milk carton, TBH.

If people tried pulling that crap here even the grannies would kick their asses.

Actually, why does anyone care about how much water something needs? Of all the metrics we can measure that is the most retarded.

Because in dry places like California they take water away from natural habitats and kill everything. It matters less in wet places like the UK.

Here's a whole sea gone in Uzbekistan.
