I love that girl.

The world seems a less desolate place just knowing that that young woman, even since she was a girl, can see with clarity, and act with honesty.

Or be groomed by her father to spout his own politics and constantly live in fear of the world ending.

Nah, it was Greta that moved her parents politics. And careers. Her mother stopped flying for work.

I hope you can at least see the irony of her shilling her own $30 book while calling for an end to capitalism

I suspect that her problem with capitalism is that rich industries can buy the death of many people, and the destruction of many ecosystems to preserve their income, and it be worth it, financially for them, rather than a writer can make money off a book.

But I'll give it a read and let you know.

Yes, I actually agree with her that our system of capitalism is structured in terms of incentives in way that is incompatible with sustainability. I just think it was ironically tone-deaf to talk about overthrowing capitalism while promoting a rather pricey for profit book.

She could have released it for free as a manifesto because saving the world by having people read it is more important than money. I imagine the book deal is quite substantial, maybe not Michelle Obama's $65 Million substantial, but she is worldwide recognizable celebrity with a substantial following of concerned Gen Zers.

I'm not even saying its a problem for her to profit from this book, books about saving the environment are good. But FFS, if you are going to do this, do not talk about overthrowing capitalism while you are out promoting a capitalist venture. This kind of shit just adds fuel to climate skepticism by making it look like shes in this for money or fame and impugns her credibility as a poster child for this important issue

It's pretty hard to make much money from a book. You can do it if you're Stephen King or J K Rowling. Maybe Greta's got the international profile to make a living from it.

A relative of mine wrote an autobiography that was the best seller in the class in this country for a few weeks. He reckons he probably made about $5 per hour, less what he spent doing promotion.

He's anesthetist, so that's probably two orders of magnitude less that what he earned going to work.

Looked into it a little more

"Greta Thunberg says she earns no money from her activism"

I retract my criticism of Greta. This person needed to research their article better or more likely this is a rather effective smear attack

Yeah. The young woman's genuine.

Interesting that as soon as the criticisms came up about her being a money making scheme, she made sure to donate all her winnings and activism based income to charity: I didn't know that, but it doesn't surprise me.

But you can't know anything about her and not know she's genuine. It's one of the superpowers of her type of autism: she's a straight talker.

Wow, what a martyr for the cause.

I'm sure that the terrible optics of her mother being so privileged and wasteful she was regally flying for work had nothing to do with the change.

She was good at what she did. Renowned in Sweden.

Can't tell if you're being sarcastic or serious. It's a hilarious comment regardless.

It's just socks doing his regular shilling.
