Top comment from youtube: "Whoever can correctly guess which particular tribe championed homosexuals in scouting gets a gold star..."

Is there a merit badge for noticing coincidences?

I love the veracity of youtube comments.

There were claims being made dating back to the 1940's, but nobody reported them because the boys were scared to, and most likely even further humiliated by their own mothers into silence.

Can confirm, one time I was touched by a girl, and I was so shocked, to this day I still wont mention it except when in online discussions relating to it for karma.

How does the event rate compare to the period before?

There's still an old school organization that tries to keep the values of scouting <2010. Nothing wrong with it if the leaders arent wierd fuxks.

I wonder what the amount of claims were before this inclusion... Otherwise, this is 'par for the course' for the organization.

Agreed. without the comparison of before after, all we can be sure of is that the organisation do a bad job at protecting kid.

The ride on a slippery slope gets faster as you near the bottom.

The perpetrators, whether straight or gay, are going to find a victim somewhere. The question is how to stop them completely. They need to be taught empathy somehow. They need to be sufficiently pained by the idea of the pain they could cause to another to not do this. I don't know how to teach empathy, but it's really important that we try to work on this if we want to problem to disappear or diminish.

The number of claims before and after would give an idea of the increase.

The new suits claims were so easy to make, that it was simply a payday for moraless people.

It wasnt that high because they let gays and lesbians in, it was BECAUSE the bar for claims was SO LOW that pretty much ANYONE could have done so.

Most troops did NOT have sexual abusing leaders, but this lawsuit made it super easy for dishonest people to collect a payout.
