Any bot posts get an account removed. When they come back with a new account hit that too.

I think we'd be willing to make that a rule if their was a good consensus. You could make a post about it and try to get some yays and nays.

There would be people who would not support banning bots? Who would be in favor of endless nonsensical messages posted in every thread?

I think people want some comment bots, not that we have them, like archive bots and video downloader bots. But as far as post bots, yeah I don't think anyone wants those.

I would!!!

But only under predetermined circumstances - possibly determined by some openly democratic means (TBD), or by permission of the M7D3 admins.

Half the time YouTube doesn't notify you. I don't know why. Facebook doesn't seem to forget anything, yet they soft censor much.

Let's say you would rather just come to SaidIt for your aggregated news, rather than all the regular places sapping your time/energy, etc. Each bot could have it's own sub. ie. /s/Bot_ZeroHedge, /s/Bot_JimmyDore, /s/Bot_BlackPigeonSpeaks, /s/Bot_Electroverse, etc. All of these would have to meet certain criteria to be exist.

If you don't like a source, you unsub and/or mute it. If you don't want to read/watch, don't.

Like newsreaders but interactive, post-bots have the potential to change the reddit-like paradigm in many obvious and not-obvious ways. Or it can be as ignored as the wikis. IMO, the most important part would be HOW the criteria for determining what are acceptable or not. It could easily spin out into chaos the way the subs have, or it can be preemptively dealt with. Maybe I'm a pessimist in believing the bots are inevitable, sooner or later. Maybe not. I don't pretend to have all the answers, or know how to run things or be a great leader, but I think it's worth discussing.

Yep, very valid points, that's why I want everyone's input. Maybe we could still allow post bots, but require that they have bot in the name, like you said.

/u/dcjogger_bot

/u/unicorn_bot

And/Or maybe have dedicated subs to contain them:
/s/dcjogger_bot
/s/unicorn_bot

I emailed you some more brainstorming ideas on this too. Feel free to reedit and rework any or all of it to present to SaidIt. If you like I can help do that under the guidance of M7D3 too. When it's up to snuff then you guys can present it to everyone, and maybe build up a little community of interest (ie. /s/SaidItBots ). My posts are hit or miss. I'm in no hurry. In fact I'd rather revisit this in a couple months. My top priorities right now:

  • Covid
  • Bittersweet Seeds
  • multiple CSS themes
  • upcoming WikiSpooks 10 year anniversary + starting WikiSpooks newsletters
  • then other things, like bots, maybe a SaidIt newsletter, store, etc

There are many potentially good uses for bots, and they can do different functions. Not all are bad.
