I couldn't find the CDC/NHS article, but the link above covers it pretty well. The science says the mechanistically the masks should reduce spreading, but every test on actual spread has shown no significant change. Basically, aside from quarantining everyone, there isn't a known way of impacting the spread of this sort of virus. What we do know is that medical treatments that improve and regulate the immune response in an infected person will have an impact on how severe the infection becomes.

But some people just don't give a fuck about anyone else but themselves.

Fortunately, the people publishing their studies include their data so we can test it ourselves to see if it is fabricated or not. We don't have to trust that they actually care about us.
