This is the same playbook they keep trying. They warn Assad not to use chemical attacks, then some nonsensical attack happens (that seems caused by the west anyway) and then the US and Israel try and invade to "defend" the people, but in reality to overthrow the government. But then they're blocked by Russia, who is supporting Syria. Then everyone forgets about it. Then 2 years later it repeats. We seem to be stuck in this pattern, it's not a good look.
