Not to mention the guns he had were already illegal under NZ law.

He had banana clips of 30+ bullets. The max allowed in NZ is 7 bullets per magazine.

He was already breaking the law and obtaining an illegal gun object, so how will more of the same laws prevent that in the future? It probably won't.
