I suppose that's pretty epic with lots of cool CGI, but it's really just an unimaginative copy of Alexander Nevsky's "Battle on the Ice" with unmemorable music.

From a FNDP 10 months ago:

Perhaps the best fusion of film and music is Sergei Eisenstein's 1938 epic Alexander Nevsky with superb score by Sergei Prokofiev. The film reënacts the invasion of Russia by the Knights of the Teutonic Order in 1242, culminating with the battle on frozen Lake Peipus. The parallels between the 13th Century knights and 1930s Nazis are deliberate.

Here is the full 27 minute "Battle on the Ice".

It's terrific, but you should really watch it on a bigger screen. Here are some highlights:

The Russians wait for the Teutonic attack. Anyone who asks why they're wearing giant Hershey's Kisses as helmets will go to bed without dessert.

The Teutonic Order. They believe God is on their side. The charge begins. Excellent music.

The leaders of the Teutonic Knights. Awesome helmets! Why do the bad guys always get better costumes? Boba Fett's helmet is based on these.

On the other hand, Alexander Nevsky's helmet with the eye-shield is awesome too. When he pulls it down he's ready to rrrrrumble!

Keep watching. Note how the camera is on the Russian foot-soldiers but you can hear the pulsing music of the Teutonic horsemen.

At 6:20 the Russian foot-soldiers deliberately retreat to draw the Teutons into a pincer formation. Lots of nasty hand-to-hand combat.

The Russian flanks attack! Go Prokofiev!

The battle is turning. The bishop with the mitre is not happy with what he's seeing. Are those decorations swastikas?

The Teutons regroup. Maybe prayer will help. Look at the Teutonic foot-soldiers' helmets at 15:20. Look familiar?

The final rout begins. Careful! Thin ice ahead!

Unimaginative I'm sure, but it's all about the death metal and video game music.

Apocalyptica - Cohkka

Stormlord - Xanadu

Guilty Gear Strive - Crawl

Even if it is hell

I'm gonna crawl

virt - Blood of Ganon (Legend of Zelda medley)

GaMetal - Revenge (Everhood remix)

[Talking Heads] - "Electric Guitar"

Electric guitar is run over by a car on the highway. This is a crime against the State. This is the meaning of life.

Utterly hilarious performance of Wilhelm Ganz' Grand Galop de Concert Qui Vive! by Hyung-ki Joo and Yu Horiuchi

Qui vive? (who is alive?) is the French version of a sentry's challenge "who goes there?"

Hyung-ki Joo & Dame Felicity Lott sing Rossini's delightful Duetto buffo di due gatti (comic duet for two cats). One of my favorite songs!

Today I bought Peter Gabriel Plays Live second hand on nearly pristine vinyl, and I was over the moon about it!

The first track I put on when I got it home was this homage to an Apartheid martyr from an earlier era, Stephen Biko:

What songs do you play when it feels like you need to get ready to gallop 110% because the predators are circling?

"The Devil's Gallop" by Charles Williams, of course. What else?
