The Church is still pissed that they lost The Battle of Lake Peipus in 1242. Here's my Alexander Nevsky "Battle on the Ice" play by play. Go Prokofiev!

And don't forget that Adolph Hitler was Roman Catholic :-)

Hitler was Roman Catholic

He was baptized and confirmed, but as an adult he explicitly rejected the Church, and he had enormous contempt for Christianity. I have Speer's memoirs right here; here's the relevant section from page 96 of Inside the Third Reich:

Hitler had been much impressed by a scrap of history he had learned from a delegation of distinguished Arabs. When the Mohammedans attempted to penetrate beyond France into Central Europe during the eighth century, his visitors had told him, they had been driven back at the Battle of Tours. Had the Arabs won this battle, the world would be Mohammedan today. For theirs was a religion that believed in spreading the faith by the sword and subjugating all nations to that faith. The German peoples would have become heirs to that religion. Such a creed was perfectly suited to the Germanic temperament.

Hitler said that the conquering Arabs, because of their racial inferiority, would in the long run have been unable to contend with the harsher climate and conditions of the country. They could not have kept down the more vigorous natives, so that ultimately not Arabs but Islamized Germans could have stood at the head of this Mohammedan Empire.

Hitler usually concluded this historical speculation by remarking: 'You see, it's been our misfortune to have the wrong religion. Why didn't we have the religion of the Japanese, who regard sacrifice for the Fatherland as the highest good? The Mohammedan religion too would have been much more compatible to us than Christianity. Why did it have to be Christianity with its meekness and flabbiness?'"

Then Hitler listened to Japanese and Arabian music and decided to go with Wagnerian Paganism :-)

I had to learn the shakuhachi, so on occasion I might almost have sympathized with that.

Surprised he can't read the tea leaves any better than this. The Church's income largely comes from '3rd world' countries which are mostly on Russia's side in that they think USA and the 'West' provoked the war to destroy Russia.

I guess it's a measure of how much the Church hates Orthodox Christianity.

Main Catholic Church is in Italy, right?

Is it possible that the Catholic Church doesn't want competition with the Russian Orthodox?

Vatican City is a separate country, surrounded by Rome, which is surrounded by Italy. Layers upon layers, don't you know :-)

The Orthodox make no claims to universality and are content to be a regional church (granted, it's a pretty big region). Meanwhile, the Pope is trying to turn the Catholic Church into an NGO/human trafficking cartel focused on wheedling money from globalist governments, and filling up the pews with as many migrants as the bishops can draw six-figure salaries for "resettling," with a bonus per head, in order to hide the fact that anywhere from a quarter to a third of those born into the faith leave it. There is no competition because there is no overlap.

That was my initial thought, the Catholics and the Orthodox have been at war for 1,000 years, often literal wars. The Orthodox call the Catholics breakaway heretics from the true faith, and the Catholics round up knights and armies and try to massacre the Orthodox. I get the feeling that if they could round up every single Orthodox priest and burn them all at the stake, they would.

It has nothing to do with the Orthodox church; he's just a standard-issue liberal. And the Church's income still comes overwhelmingly from the West. Its adherents are increasingly found in the third world, as is also true of the Anglicans, but that's different.

[–]kingsmegLiberté, égalité, fraternité 4 insightful - 1 fun4 insightful - 0 fun5 insightful - 1 fun -  (4 children)

Its wealth is largely held in the West, but income, as in tithing and sales of indulgences are from the 3rd world. I think. Hardly anyone in the West goes to Church anymore.

Edit: On second thought, the Church does get significant incomes from the West from the rental and sale of property like real estate, also some countries like USA pay the Church large amounts of money to run hospitals and charities, I don't know if that amounts to more than they get from fleecing their sheep in the 3rd world. You would have to know how much dioceses remit to the Vatican to be able to make the comparison.

[–]MeganDelacroix🤡🌎 detainee 4 insightful - 2 fun4 insightful - 1 fun5 insightful - 2 fun -  (3 children)

income, as in tithing and sales of indulgences are from the 3rd world

Nope.

And this a drop in the bucket compared to investment portfolios and real estate, which is where the bulk of the Vatican's income comes from.

[–]kingsmegLiberté, égalité, fraternité 2 insightful - 1 fun2 insightful - 0 fun3 insightful - 1 fun -  (1 child)

Interesting. That's just the numbers from one particular fund, which is supposed to be a charity feeding the poor. Their income from real estate and financial investments doesn't go into that, lol.

[–]MeganDelacroix🤡🌎 detainee 2 insightful - 1 fun2 insightful - 0 fun3 insightful - 1 fun -  (0 children)

Well, they're not supposed to commingle the two, but as we know those sorts of rules are never respected in government, NGOs, and corporations, and it's no different in the Church. Hundreds of millions of dollars from Peter's Pence have been embezzled, improperly used for investments, and so on.

[–]CaelianPost No Toasties 3 insightful - 3 fun3 insightful - 2 fun4 insightful - 3 fun -  (0 children)

I though the Vatican's main source of income was shared royalties from Dan Brown :-)

It has nothing to do with the Orthodox church; he's just a standard-issue liberal.

It has everything to do with it. The Orthodox Church never sanctioned usury; the Roman Catholic Church outsourced it to the Jews.

The schism is very real and isn't reducible to a word.

[–]MeganDelacroix🤡🌎 detainee 3 insightful - 2 fun3 insightful - 1 fun4 insightful - 2 fun -  (4 children)

It's about more than a single word, yes, but the schism has always been pretty one-sided. It's the Orthodox church that made a big deal out of it, and even they aren't that exercised about it these days. The idea that any Pope - and this Pope in particular, who is practically an atheist - wants to see Russia defeated and/or destroyed because of his hostility to the Orthodox church is ridiculous.

[–]captainramen🇺🇸🛠️ MAGA Communist 🛠️🇺🇸 4 insightful - 1 fun4 insightful - 0 fun5 insightful - 1 fun -  (3 children)

That's what I'm getting at.

I'm gonna paraphrase Dugin here. One way to look at the history of Liberalism: it is the successive destruction of humanity's collective identities. First they replaced Catholic Christianity as the unifying identity of Western Europeans with some artificial nonsense about nation states, which itself is being replaced by an an even more artificial loyalty to the civil institutions (i.e., the Open Society). Today it seems as if the are trying to erase they most important of man's collective identities, that of man and woman. And one day, humanity itself.

The Orthodox Churches stand in stark contrast to this. They are not universal. They are rooted in the civilizations they find themselves in: The Ethiopian Orthodox Church, the Russian Orthodox Church, &c.

It's not about the Pope's personal opinion on anything. For dialectics at least this is wrong.

He is simply the byproduct, perhaps even the culmination, of a line of historical development. He literally cannot help himself.

I mean we call Liberals NPCs for a reason.

Pope Francis is apparently in favor of giving weapons to Ukraine. Speaking to reporters this weekend, the Pope said that Ukrainians are martyrs that that countries should not pull back from giving them weapons. One doesn’t expect a religious leader to talk about peace by means of weapons. “Thou shalt not kill” is one of the Ten Commandments in the Bible. Wouldn’t that apply to killing Russians too?

Why is it surprising that a major nazi ally still wants to help nazis? And the "don't kill" thing has always been one of the most laughable parts of the whole bullshit. This asshole's organization has been lying, stealing and killing for its entire existence. The CIA is nothing in comparison.

The Pope also says that the immigrant crisis in Europe is being politicized and all people should be offered hospitality. Is it though?? How many open rooms does the Vatican have then?

Sadly all the rooms are currently occupied by hoards of stolen artifacts and pedophiles in hiding :'(

But I'm sure that they'd love to help, if only they could. Mysterious ways and all that. They'll be sending their thoughts and prayers though.

As long as we're talking about comeuppances and reckonings, even ALL OF THIS may only be the beginning.

Speaking of "the tea-leaves", I've wondered for a while now whether the "Know-Nothing" Party is due for a comeback in one form or another.

You're both wrong. The commandment prohibits murder. It has never applied to self-defense, war, execution, or any other kind of lawful killing.

Hey, it's easy to justify any murder as a 'lawful killing' when you're the one making up the laws and enforcing them within your own "community". Worst case scenario if it risks being too noticeable from the outside, just hide the evidence and the faithful culprits \o/

Applies to pedophiles as well, obviously.

What this asshole pope is calling for will cause the deaths of Russians who happen to be on the right side of history, will cause the deaths of Ukrainians who, outside of the nazi ones, don't deserve what's coming to them, and all that money isn't coming from the coffers of billionaires. So it will increase even more the economic suffering of the people who are actually paying for it, which will also cause more deaths.

Nothing lawful or justified in any of that, and the people from whom that money will be taken are neither at war nor acting in self-defense.

This is straight up lying, stealing and murdering, as they're so adept at doing, having practiced it for so long.

I criticized one specific claim about one specific commandment, and your acceptance of a false premise. That's it.

I've never defended this pope's statements attacking Russia, and practically nothing else he's ever said either.

Didn't say you did, just like I didn't 'accept a false premise'. I just used the technicality to add to the original topic, nothing more.
