Some additional info:

I got a text from the Nikki Haley Campaign (at least I think it's them, they seem to be the only ones that call me that wrong name)...

[Wrong name], we are having an overwhelming response to the non-partisan poll....Your choice matters. Please let us know which candidate is your first choice.

1 for Trump
2 for DeSantis
3 for Other
4 for Undecided

Thank you. If you reply, we will send all voters the results of our poll.

(I didn't reply, so I guess they won't.)

The implications of the wording are quite interesting....
"Non-partisan.... Trump or DeSantis?" Any first-choice-Biden (or other non-Republican) people would be bundled with the Republican "other"s.

I think they may be looking for a groundswell of "People for Other."

Thank you. "Other" and "Undecided" would both be encouraging to a candidate like Haley.

Well, AFP has been running a mailer campaign of "If Trump vs Biden, Biden wins. We need Anybody But Trump to beat Biden" (paraphrased) without saying who their "anybody" actually is.

At this point, it's looking like it might be Tim Scott, but Nikki may be angling to take it from him.

Thanks. I just had a shower thought that I will have to let marinate for a while. (Sorry about the mixed metaphor!)

It may be that campaign season, culminating in election day, is the only time it really, really matters who the nominee is.

And even that assumes that elections aren't rigged.

Maybe that's just another way of saying, "If voting mattered, they wouldn't let us do it."

I knew a guy who used a different middle initial each time he subscribed to something so he could track how his info was being sold.

An engineer, of course 😺

    LOL!

I believe IBM did that with pre-release IBM PCs that were sent to developers. Each chassis had subtle differences so they'd know which unit showed up in trade press photos.

By the way, I always called that excellent publication Geek Times — "You can't spell Geek without EE". Every week there was a photo of an engineer on the front page: I called him or (rarely) her "the geek of the week" 😺
