Yes, I know reports are anonymous and WotB rarely if ever bans.

The point I was making is, given WotB’s free speech stance on removals and bans, your eagerness to escalate reports to the admin is incongruous.

Which is worse? Having a comment or post removed? Being banned from a sub? Or getting your entire account site-wide suspended?

Given those options, nobody would choose the site-wide suspension. There is nothing worse on Reddit.

So if you agree you shouldn’t do anything that would get your users banned from the whole site if you wouldn’t even ban them from just your sub, you should adjust your method of processing reports so your users never have to risk that outcome.

Especially since you don’t make that risk clear to everyone before they submit reports. If I’d known you guys escalate this quickly, I never would have submitted a report in the first place.

Well, there is having an entire subreddit removed......

Please cut the bs. Reddit is not going to remove the sub because you received specious reports.

If the sub is making specious reports on another sub, i.e., brigading other subs, that’ll get you quarantined and/or banned.

But some random ThIs iS hAtE spEEcH nonsense? Check whether it actually does violate site-wide rules. If not, approve the item, ignore future reports and move on.

ChapoTrapHouse has entered the chat.

Oh really? You know for a fact that CTH was banhammered because they received reports, and not for how they handled them?

I call bullshit.

CTH was engaged in brigading, the mods were not enforcing site-wide rules and ignoring calls for violence, particularly against the police.

They were warned, then quarantined, then banned.

They weren’t removed because they got some trolling bad reports.

CTH was engaged in brigading

Unlike subs like NoMoreSandersSpam, or TopMinds, or SubredditDrama, or a dozen others that existed solely for the purposes of instigating brigades?

and ignoring calls for violence

This is applied in one direction. Plenty of subs get away with this, it all depends on the target.

They weren’t removed because they got some trolling bad reports.

They were removed because they were targeted by coordinated troll campaigns.

Of course the admin applies the rules arbitrarily.

You know they’re unpredictable, so why do you give them the opportunity to fuck with your sub by escalating reports to them?

Handle reports yourself like an adult. The Ignore Reports button was created by Reddit for a reason. Use it.
