The illusion of democracy seems to be incredibly important to politicians and political writers, bloggers, podcasters, etc.

On paper, we're a republic, not a democracy, which the Framers rejected. In practice, we went from Parliament and a reportedly crazy monarch to an oligarchy or a plutocracy. The citicorp memos went even further, saying that we're merely an economy--a plutonomy, to be more specific. Nothing else is significant.

You'd think citicorp choosing Obama's cabinet for him would clue up some folks, but then the red/blue children's game Jeffrey describes would no longer be useful at keeping us focused on the squirrels they keep pointing at.

Was it citicorp? Or citigroup or whatever they were calling themselves then?

The selection of his cabinet has been attributed to various entities.

I got my citi's mixed up. Looks like a list Michael Froman (citigroup) (CFR Senior Fellow) submitted to John Podesta was adhered to almost exclusively.

Golden Sacks and JP Morgan probably had some influence somewhere, but it seems Froman was Podesta's main man, and Obama's apparently. Froman later negotiated the TPP and TTIP trade agreements, before returning to the CFR as a Distinguished Fellow.

Same entity, I think?

Truman spared us from the TPP, which Obama wanted fast track and Hillary called the "Gold standard, until she ran for POTUS. Then, she decided it needed work.

Oh, geez. I meant Trump, not Truman!
