Is this Jason Carswell any relation to Mr. Karswell, the alchemist and occultist in M. R. James' marvelous short story "Casting the Runes" (1911)?

Carswell is a rare enough surname but certainly not extremely rare and a few prominent examples exist.

I highly recommend the story. There's a copy at Gutenberg.

The 1957 British movie adaptation Night of the Demon is quite good. There's a shortened US version called Curse of the Demon.

The only Mr. Carswell in movies that I know of is in the 1965 Michael Caine spy craft feature, The Ipcress File. IIRC, it's pretty good except for the corny torture sequence.
