Nol says she recently was visiting some salt marshes this summer and saw a common bird there that's called Wilson's Snipe...

I say allowing these birds to exist is still going to be a reminder of the horrors of white supremacy. You can change the birds name but that doesn't change the years of oppression heaped on society by the birds. I say we rise up and free ourselves from the chains of the aviarchy by embracing the superiority of feline culture!

That really started to change in 2020, when police officers killed George Floyd in Minneapolis. On that same day, a white woman in Central Park called the police on black birder Christian Cooper, claiming he was threatening her.

And when the full story came out, turns out the “black birder” had a history of harassing people, including black people, and the woman, alone in a secluded place, had every right to feel threatened.

Wonder why they didn’t mention that bit. Hmm?

In the “reaction” section it’s briefly mentioned that the guy had a history of doing this.

Some descriptions of how the birdwatcher had behaved previously here. He doesn’t come across as a particularly sympathetic character.

if you need an exhaustive archival search and academic analysis to determine that something's been secretly offensive because of some leaflet from 1843, then it's not offensive: I thought they dropped the "microaggression" terminology altogether since everyone was pointing out it was one-thousandth of an offense
