I know an older transwoman who told me privately that she is de facto asexual due to chronic infection in the surgically-created vagina. She told me she regrets transition, especially the surgery, but is resigned to living with the consequences. And this is someone who did it when there was much more gatekeeping. The medical authorities promoting transition really do not tell people about the long-term outcomes. That's not part of the brochure.

Because the clinical data just isn’t collected and anyone that tries to look into it is subjected to horrific abuse and is basically committing career suicide.

No surgeon should be doing any of the sex change procedures, they just do not have the evidence to support them as effective treatments compared to counselling and psychiatric treatment for the delusion.

I think anyone who has posted here for any length of time has agreed that when this house of cards comes tumbling down and the society-wide fever dream breaks, we will wonder what the fuck we allowed doctors and surgeons to do. I personally hope that it causes a massive shift in how medicine is practiced, in the UK in the way that it is regulated (allowing NICE to do it’s job and set guidelines for treatment without political interference) and in the US investigating the role money influences doctors’ decision-making processes (pharma influence, “defensive medicine”, upselling and never saying no).

The big change that will have to happen is the utter destruction of the influence that the grifters have in politics, be they gender identity, race or any other special interest that lobbies for legislation and special treatment.

One of our problems is our era's misplaced confidence in the idea that we're so enlightened that we're somehow beyond being caught up in magical/superstitious thinking. The rise of gender identity dogma shows just how wrong that idea is. Human beings are still vulnerable to believing all sorts of crazy shit if it's packaged in the right way.

I wonder if realizing they fucked up and now have to live with the consequences has similar psychological effects to just desisting. Like ultimately they are accepting themselves for who they are, albeit in a sad way where they had to cut themselves up a bit first.

It's also the case that if they speak openly about it, they'll be vilified by Trans Inc. So not only do they have to suffer the consequences, they have to suffer in silence -- or only tell a few people they can trust.
