It's always so confusing when people talk about someone in the past tense but refer to them as the post transition pronoun.

like something out of Douglas Adams, you need a new grammatical tense to describe "what will happen if the present changes" or "what happened in a now-foregone past": it'd be a slap in the face to keep saying Elliot Paige, but how are you going to describe Juno without turning it into Michael Cera making a man pregnant?

Don't forget other examples, like how despite it being a men's only competition, we saw Caitlyn Jenner win the 1976 decathlon gold medal and as such be lauded as the greatest athlete in the world", or "despite TV-PG and Mattel's regulations banning WWE from even having men fight women in their video games, that did not stop them from having Gabbi Tuft solely fight men for three years from 2009-2012 in the company". Those too.
