OMG someone showed a film critiquing gender ideology? Literally genocide!

Secret movie nights in pubs. So exciting and rebellious. Why aren't the youth into this kind of thing?

What’s interesting is that no one digs into the reason those films have to be shown in secret back rooms and not openly. The wilfull blindness is shocking and disgraceful.

You should be able to have screenings of any film you like unmolested, but in this crazy timeline the lunatics screeching about being oppressed wield tremendous power to censure and censor.

The brewery in question is Manchester based Cloudwater Brew Co. This is their current header on twitter, which it absolutely wasn't just a few days ago.

This is actually an area where I have some knowledge, Manchester has a pretty competitive brewery scene, in Greater Manchester alone there's Pomona Island, Squawk, Blackjack Brewing Co, Marble Beers, Seven Brothers, Alphabet Brewing Company, First Chop, Runaway Brewery, etc. And that's without going into the fact that a good portion of the pubs in and around the city are going to be owned by one of four companies, Nicholsons, Joseph Holt, J W Lees or Stonegate and Nicholsons pubs are the only one out of the four that don't have set beers on tap in their pubs. To put it simply, there's no lack of competition even within the city, let alone outside. And I honestly think Cloudwater is the one I see on tap the least in pubs, other than ones that have their own flagship pub where they exclusively serve their own beers (Marble being one with The Marble Arches). I'll often see Thornbridge, who are from not far away, Pomona Island is on tap in a fair few places, Squawk in a few, Blackjack have a deal with one of the major food halls, Runaway has deals with some of the major restaurants.

See the step? Go and sit on it and think about what you just did!

The supplier, Cloudwater Brew Co which has a ‘Queer Brewing’ guest range of canned products, were contacted for comment on its commercial decision.

Literally, who?

Oh, a painfully woke brewery staffed by besleeved hipsters.

Shock horror, they buy into the trans catechism! Interesting they have their IWD celebrations front and centre on their website.

I can just imagine that these will be the most insufferable collection of humans north of Islington.

You left out the next sentence in the article.

"But it is understood the impact on the pub will be minimal."

Apparently they've already replaced their beers with ones that are proving far more popular. I can't imagine English beers are particularly popular in Ireland anyway, and it's not like they're lacking for breweries themselves

I've had a look at their beers and they all seem to be that modern style of IPA where you can't see to the other side of your pint glass. There are more interesting breweries in the area, mostly ones that have realised that the route forwards is a mixture of real ales & craft ales (with usually one token lager)

Edit: It's also worth noting that breweries are going broke without even being woke right now. With rising costs, and a frankly oversaturated market (a lot of the breweries I listed below don't really have anything to make them standout, I'd say Squawk, Pomona Island & Marble are the three that have figured out market capture the best). In the past few months alone, Manchester Brewing Co have announced they're closing, Twisted Wheel from not too far away, a whole bunch over in Yorkshire.

They haven’t made it to South London where I am or they just don’t have offerings in the pubs I frequent.

I don’t know enough about the brewery industry, and next to nothing about the various small breweries outside London, but I would have thought that a company in a parlous market might choose to keep its mouth shut on contentious issues and plead ignorance or say “we have a contract to supply them” and leave it at that rather than attract the attention of the Sauron’s Eye of social media.

They seem to cater to a fairly specific market, which is a problem in and of itself in the current climate. They possibly have a taproom in London, which by the way is a concept I dislike anyway, they're always fucking sterile and lifeless, give me a good boozer any day. From their beer offering they just look like an alternative BrewDog and I don't really fancy their beers either.

Their problem is going to be that this isn't just going to turn away people who disagree with the trans pandering, but people who aren't fans of authoritarian shitbags and their enablers. You're going to have a hard time convincing people you were acting in a just way when you refuse service to a pub, who've committed the grave sin of allowing a private screening of a documentary, regardless of what that documentary actually says. Though this is a perfect example of how authoritarians behave, the person who kicked this off initially tried to force an apology out of the pub, then when that didn't work started going after their suppliers

So where can we see this "secretly-screened documentary"?

The most ridiculous part of this is that the bar just rented out a room and didn't even know what movie was being played.

[–]Datachost[S] 4 insightful - 2 fun4 insightful - 1 fun5 insightful - 2 fun -  (0 children)

I can imagine that's roughly how the email to and from the pub went

Excuse me, are you going to apologise for this? You wouldn't want to look transphobic, would you?

Dude, we rented out a private function room. What people choose to do in it is their choice. So long as it doesn't break the law, and they pay us, we really don't care

Imagine being this afraid of reality.
