The leaders of the coup do not plan on having a utopia of justice as equals.
They want a society of equality of slavery of the majority, ruled from the shadows by a elite minority.

The true believers must be eliminated after the takeover, because they will rebel when they realize they were used/deceived.

Standard practice in violent communist/socialist takeovers.

And these people know as well, but they ignore it because they go past "they truly believe" and go to "they cannot possibly fathom a result of the revolution that isn't them, personally, as ruler of the elite minority."
