I don’t think it’s much of a stretch to say that these stories are going to become very common over the next decade as the fad peters out and people realise just what they’ve done to themselves.

It's really funny for five minutes until you realise the banality and uselessness of it all. Then it's just sad. Just a lonely human having been altered and sterilised, forever disfigured.

It's not all bad, is the gene pool not improved by sterilizing people who could be confused by something so intrinsic as gender, or manipulated into considering the ridiculous?

Hmm. Maybe. I don't think so. This is about marketing and nobody is truly immune, much less teen girls who are taking the brunt of it. Modern life is alienated and atomised enough and this is what happens. You might argue that the gene pool would improve if we got rid of the people who benefit from this, as they do so to the detriment of the rest of us.
