It’ll turn out that he’s been getting away with it for years and so just didn’t bother to cover his tracks. There’s no way he’s only done it twice. I bet he’s been doing it and things like it for a long time and he’s escalating.

Or maybe all the blood in his body was occupied elsewhere and so he had a lack of oxygen in his brain.

Or maybe he was in the escalation phase of a very dangerous version of AGP. Russel Williams,the Canadian commander of Canada's greatest air military base ,who started by breaking into women's homes and wearing their underwear,later escalated to raping and killing them,comes to mind.

It was quite a shock really. Williams had top secret clearance and was so trusted that he was the primary pilot on the canadian forces aircraft that shuttled Her Majesty around the country. Just shows you that anyone can be a deviant.
