Yeah that's my thinking really, people need that space but mixed spaces have value too. As you say so long as an equal mixed option is available i don't really care if men want a male only gym or women want a female only one you know?

If that's what the customers want, and as long as it's not a necessity or public service, I frankly can't be offended by it. The real areas where we need strong anti-discirimination laws are places like, education, housing, medical treatment, necessities really. For gym or a bar? As long as there is an option for everyone it's fine. But the context of it is quite important.

Considering that this was about a social network app I was mostly thinking of minor things, like your barber is men only? Fair enough cause there's other options. Anything major I think has been legislated at this point. At least in the west. I can actually see it being beneficial to some to have their own space, so long as they're still interacting with others in other spaces and having healthy views on others then some male bonding time can be great for men. Same for women with their own space (though that one often has safety applied as well).

I mean for something like a barber, I don't see a really good reason to do male or female only. Barber specializes in men's hairstyles and that's it? Fine. Woman wants to come in and get a men's haircut? Her money will be as good as anyone else's.
I don't see any reason to particularly ban such things or tolerate lawsuits. Maybe some Muslim barber has a religious reason for not serving women or something. Whatever, society will be fine. But it's one of those things where there really isn't a good reason to segregate. It's not like men go into the beauty salons to pick up chicks right?
Wait a minute that's a fucking good idea? There's gonna be no competition! Wish me luck ladies. Should I wear my thong, or am I better off wearing nothing? Women like it when you've got nothing to hide after all. Good idea. My weekend is booked now.

Lol. From my understanding it's an atmosphere thing? Like some men/shops just like it to be all men and seem to prefer it. One of my male friends has mentioned it's less chatty and more relaxing for them like that so I think that could play a part.
Which is also fair if your selling point over other places is that atmosphere, you probably gain more money from that than some women wanting a haircut there. If people want to pay for that then have at it.
Have fun at the beauty salons, I see no way that plan can go wrong!

Sure but let me put it this way. I don't, and I don't think most men do either, actually givens fuck if you are a woman or not. We do give a fuck if you don't respect the "male energy" of the space, as many women are somehow unable to comprehend the concept that, men don't want to listen to you drown on about shit we don't care about , then criticize us for ignoring you.
We don't care if women do this among themselves as long as they don't involve us. And we also don't care if women want to come join the "guys night out" so long as they follow our own social norms.
For the same reason I'm usually invited to the "girls night out" because I put up with shit I don't like because it's not my place to criticize, and I don't make them feel uncomfortable because I recognize I'm an outsider. Not that I usually go but whatever.
Of course the exception is showing up at the hair salon naked. Nothing can possibly go wrong! Brilliant idea. No problems here.
All I'll say is ultimately, shit is more fun with a mixed group of men and women. But, whenever the night ends with the mixed group, we've usually pruned the, shall we say, annoying people, from both sexes. And yes that includes the specials.
