I had no idea this movie even existed, but I don't think dumping a bunch of money into advertising would have helped it. Their executive admitted to having a not-so-secret gay agenda, and people don't want to be preached to. If anything it would have probably hurt the company to draw attention to it after having that come out

I've seen trailers for it in the theater but basically nothing besides that. The trailers did not leave me with any desire to see it as it looked like a bland soulless "adventure" move of the "wow look pretty colors" type. No clue the lead was gay, I'd probably have been even less likely to care if I'd known that.

Lack of advertising for this one definitely makes it seem like they're trying to forget it. Recent shakeups at Disney seem to further that impression. Since Disney is still basically in the market of making kids movies and the conservative side of the culture war seems to be back into all out Disney boycott mode I do think that had they marketed this aggressively as gay it would have created a lot of backlash. Light-year got the most attention there cause they marketed the blink and you'll miss it lesbian relationship hard but the movie itself was bland and uninteresting which led to it's failure. Actually before that I think the "Turning Red" movie turned a lot of parents sour, seems they took the lesson that because they mentioned menstruation in passing that was what was offending people, but if you read the outrage threads on it they barely mentioned that and it was the weird sexualization of the tweens along with the moral of the movie seemingly being "I don't have to listen to you anymore mom I'm 13!" that had parents very upset.

Reckon you'll see Disney go back to Princess movies in a year or two.

I don't think Disney will even come back to making those silly Princess movies, they are not as profitable as they used to be in the past, also it seems that Disney don't give a shit about little girls anymore. They rather pander to nerds with their Marvel and Shit Wars movies beacuse they are much more profitable.

Idk the budget on those is high and I think they slowly lose their appeal in the mass market. But the princess movies tend to do really well financially and long term.
