A 'male sex pest' who allegedly dressed up as a woman to assault another man in a town centre was today remanded in custody.

Wayne Rogers, 46, from Bishop's Stortford in Hertfordshire, was arrested yesterday accused of assaulting a man in the town centre in the early hours of September 11.

He appeared before Hatfield Remand Court this morning where he was remanded in custody to appear before St Albans Crown court on December 5.

Detectives have been investigating the incident in which a man was assaulted by a suspect, who was a man dressed as a woman.

Detective Inspector Justine Jenkins, from the Bedfordshire, Cambridgeshire and Hertfordshire Major Crime Unit, is leading the investigation.

She said: 'I would appeal to anyone who has any information about the incident, or anyone who saw any suspicious activity in the area to please contact us.

'I would also ask anyone who may have been approached in similar circumstances to make contact with my team.

'Please be reassured any information will be treated with the utmost sensitivity and in the strictest confidence.'

Note how careful the reporter was to stress that this was a man dressed as a woman and use the appropriate pronouns.
