Could be but doesn’t have too. Unfortunately nowadays there’s more young people who feel insecure due to associating being a man/woman with stereotypes and sexualization only. Cue possible trauma, experience of sexual abuse or being clueless about the trans agenda and the real motifs of these people. Some young people even get closer to that community just because they believe not supporting them will make them akin to “evil, homophobic and transphobic old people” they want to oppose. Some parents failed their children in giving them safety and self-worth and it might lead to such places. Oh, and casual grooming and social contagions too - not always by identifying as trans, sometimes just by showing support to them...
