So for some context here, Mermaids a UK charity whose CEO flew her son out to Thailand at 16 to get his dick inverted, along with a few other organisations mostly notably LGBT Consortium (whose CEO Paul Roberts was the main witness today) have appealed against the Charity Commission's decision to grant LGB Alliance charity status. However, before they can challenge that decision it has to be determined if they're actually allowed to (if they have standing in this case), because it's basically unprecedented for one charity to file a claim like this against another. Which is what the current trial is about. And things are not going well for Mermaids side.

Today was a dumpster fire, under the questioning of EHRC Commissioner Akua Reindorf (who was previously involved in a review of the University of Essex where she stated Stonewall are clearly interpreting the law how they would like it to be rather than how it is), the aforementioned Paul Roberts said some pretty fucking stupid things. Including that it would be transphobic to state that a female can't be a gay man, that he personally doesn't know many butch/femme lesbian couples, that he's only skimmed the Cass report (despite his organisation signing a declaration criticising it) and that he doesn't know if men are stronger than women

So with all that being said "He at least said TWAW and TMAM" is probably about the best Mermaids can say

All im getting from this is that one organization is trying to tell another organization to stop being transphobic bigots and accept trans folx or face legal punishment for their hatred and bigotry. Clearly Mermaids is correct and the LGB alliance needs to not only accept trans ppl but also start transitioning themselves because the only true member of the lgb is the T. Sorry guys but you aren't gay, bi or lesbians you are trans so cut off your dicks and bind your tits. Stop fighting the evolution of humyxnity and just give into our demands already or we wont just stop at legal action we will come to your homes and force you to submit against your will.

The irony that mermaids are grotesque fantasy monsters that don't really exist is proof enough that Mermaids is a deeply transphobic organization and anyone who supports them is worthy of cancellation.

I like to imagine mermaids as having the upper half of a fish and the lower half of a human.

What I'm taking away from this is that a group of money-grubbing swine is trying to keep a new pig from bellying up to the trough and sticking its snout in.

That is probably exactly it.

Is the thing being recorded on video? I'd like to see it.

Nope. Trials and hearings in England and Wales, Scotland or Northern Ireland are not yet televised, except for the post-verdict sentencing hearing in some criminal cases, which has just started to happen. Damn shame, lots of misunderstandings about the law, trial outcomes and rulings could be prevented if only we could watch the proceedings and see the testimony ourselves.

I believe that the Supreme Court is televised or at least has televised sessions. But that is probably because it’s a fairly new institution having been set up only about 20 years ago.

I love the naming choice. Mermaids are not real creatures same way as Ts are not real men/women.

We're onto day three an today we start off with John Nicolson MSP on the witness stand. He's committed to early mistakes, in trying to blur the boundary between adult and child and in using "born in the wrong body" which isn't even Mermaids' stance anymore.

Edit: And he's just said a lesbian is anyone who chooses to identify as one. Not really making a great case as to why LGB Alliance aren't needed

[–]oatcake 1 insightful - 1 fun1 insightful - 0 fun2 insightful - 1 fun -  (1 child)

I just want to state that John Nicolson is an arrogant prick and total charlatan. May his next shite be a hedgehog.

The man's an arsehole of the highest order. Happy to talk about what a great ally he is now, but his own voting record on gay rights back when he was in the closet was atrocious. His testimony yesterday was nothing short of laughable, just answering questions that weren't asked, throwing out wild accusations. I think he genuinely thought he could just act how he does on Twitter. At one point he claimed one of the supporters of the LGBA impersonated an MP (him). He was referring to James Dreyfus having uploaded a video where he was playing an obvious parody of him.

don't they realize the horrible optics of going after another charity? they must really believe the narrative will always be on their side to be this aggressively censorial. they better hope no one actually reads or hears any of the substance of what's being discussed as a result because that's gonna change a lot of minds real quickly.

[–]Datachost[S] 10 insightful - 1 fun10 insightful - 0 fun11 insightful - 1 fun -  (3 children)

don't they realize the horrible optics of going after another charity?

They believe themselves to be in the right, the optics don't matter. What this trial has shown quite well is exactly why we need healthy debate and a plurality of opinions for a healthy society. Because some of the shit coming out of Mermaids' witnesses can only come from never having their opinions challenged, or being able to no platform anyone that does. John Nicolson today said "A lesbian is anyone who identifies as one. The lesbians on my commission would agree with that". That's because you kicked out all the lesbians that didn't, John.

[–]alladd 3 insightful - 1 fun3 insightful - 0 fun4 insightful - 1 fun -  (2 children)

They believe themselves to be in the right, the optics don't matter

precisely. it's tunnel vision. i really don't think they realize how poorly this is making them look. it's like an entire organization has NPD.

[–]Datachost[S] 4 insightful - 1 fun4 insightful - 0 fun5 insightful - 1 fun -  (1 child)

it's like an entire organization has NPD.

Large swathes of society. Today saw one member of parliament make a complete fool of himself with another currently in the process of making a fool of herself with her support of him. When Julie Bindel tells you you're getting it wrong, maybe your response should be to look into it a bit more rather than sarcastically say "Ooh looks like I've made a new friend". And I'm not saying she can't be wrong, there are a fair few things I disagree with her on, but when someone with her track record says "Hang on, this is damaging to women and lesbians as well as many other sectors of society" maybe it's worth at least giving it a second thought.

[–]alladd 3 insightful - 1 fun3 insightful - 0 fun4 insightful - 1 fun -  (0 children)

i think bindel is an obnoxious twit whose politics stem from being compulsively defiant and smacks of the lamest kind of retro SCUM feminism but she's right about troons. most anyone with half a brain can be.

[–]ClassyJacket 6 insightful - 2 fun6 insightful - 1 fun7 insightful - 2 fun -  (9 children)

There are no bad optics in this world for trans people. There is nothing they could do that would make the majority criticize them. Trans people are literally allowed to sexually abuse children and they're still called brave.

[–]alladd 4 insightful - 1 fun4 insightful - 0 fun5 insightful - 1 fun -  (8 children)

i do think there is a kind of theoretical "peak threshold" at which people who normally give them a pass have no choice but to face the reality of what's happening, but it's hard to say what combination of factors have to happen for that to occur. but i do think it's beginning to happen more.

lia thomas, JKR and chappelle have been like the biggest "pressure points" in cultural memory, imo, and you can see in the way some people have changed their language around the issue that they're beginning to think twice.

[–]Newzok 6 insightful - 1 fun6 insightful - 0 fun7 insightful - 1 fun -  (6 children)

It's insane that either of them got demonised to that extent. Neither are anti trans, they just don't go all the way with the rhetoric. At least to start with.

[–]alladd 4 insightful - 1 fun4 insightful - 0 fun5 insightful - 1 fun -  (5 children)

right, it's purely because they had the gall to point out what their gut was saying to them. that intolerant hypersensitive reaction made people notice. it goes beyond being a protected class or someone going through a hard time and becomes a kind of pathological victimhood. people recognize that even if they don't understand all the arguments, and it pushes them to think about it.

[–]Newzok 5 insightful - 1 fun5 insightful - 0 fun6 insightful - 1 fun -  (4 children)

Yeah I mean, I get that but a lot of my friends don't. If all you know is the drama and trannies are offended at x, most people will think x is horrible. I hope people are waking up.

[–]alladd 3 insightful - 1 fun3 insightful - 0 fun4 insightful - 1 fun -  (3 children)

no for sure, but i think intentional ignorance is a big part of that. the best trans allies are the ones who have no opinions of their own and work hard to know basically nothing about it. anyone who actually tries to get informed approaches peaking.

[–]Newzok 5 insightful - 1 fun5 insightful - 0 fun6 insightful - 1 fun -  (2 children)

Yeah just a small glimpse dispels a lot of illusions; I guess a sign of this and the next generation is media disillusionment. Also I find the grasp of this particular, uh, interest group? covert ad-campaign? psy-op? to be almost overwhelming in scope. It has fingers in so many pies it's insane. It's in everything. How the fuck is it in everything?

[–]alladd 2 insightful - 1 fun2 insightful - 0 fun3 insightful - 1 fun -  (1 child)

i remain confident they'll fuck it up because they're porn-addicted narcissists who lack self-awareness. eventually the veil has to be lifted; they have to admit to someone it's just a fetish. then we keep receipts.

i have faith in the next generation. they're not as media illiterate as we think.

[–]Newzok 4 insightful - 1 fun4 insightful - 0 fun5 insightful - 1 fun -  (0 children)

I do too. But I think they'll have tech related hurdles that we didn't have. I'm glad I grew up without Facebook. It just got started when I was 19.

Agree that it'll probably course-correct because it's just getting more and more obvious that it's porn-brain and various cluster-b disorders, at least in men. The amount of detransitioning girls will probably be the thing that topples it. And I think the lesbians won't take shit much longer.

I got an FTM friend. I'm supportive and lend an ear. But I'm skeptical to her getting surgery; I hope she won't regret it. She's not a young person, so she probably should know what she wants. But that someone seems so excited to amputate their breasts is surreal to me.

[–]OuroborosTheory 2 insightful - 1 fun2 insightful - 0 fun3 insightful - 1 fun -  (0 children)

unfortunately it's never been changed by society "peaking" about the whole bigger shitshow, but because one group topples and another takes over: it happened to the radfems 2012-4 when they collided with the dysphoric trans and crumbled to dust; it happened to the Robin diAngelo white-lady feminists with AA activism (so now we have to listen to hotep nonsense like "Black Americans were NOT brought over from Africa, we're the real Indians!")

there's never been any endpoint, never any rejection of the whole PROCESS itself: it's still just a combination of post-OWS inability to deal with Obama (then Trump), a constant standing wave of perpetually-online 17-22yo college students, and entry into journalism/academic admin/HR/IT goldbricking to keep the process going

Optics? Have you seen these fucking people?

If they cared about optics they wouldn't leave the house dressed in fishnets. If they cared about optics they wouldn't record themselves jacking off in women's restrooms.

[–]OuroborosTheory 1 insightful - 1 fun1 insightful - 0 fun2 insightful - 1 fun -  (0 children)

it's a "bag lady threshold": is someone minimally familiar with conditioner? or is it a big ol' rat's nest?

[–]clownworlddropout 3 insightful - 1 fun3 insightful - 0 fun4 insightful - 1 fun -  (0 children)

Down is up! Up is down! I need to make this a mantra because it's logically inconsistent gobbledygook!

[–]Newzok 2 insightful - 1 fun2 insightful - 0 fun3 insightful - 1 fun -  (2 children)

I'm out of the loop. Did LGB alliance say anything against Mermaids or other orgs? Or is the beef just that it's a non trans charity and thus dirty infidels?

[–]Datachost[S] 7 insightful - 1 fun7 insightful - 0 fun8 insightful - 1 fun -  (1 child)

Not particularly, they're just cutting into their bottom line, both through their mere existence and their actions. Turns out when your whole business model is based on "If you feel uncomfortable in your body, get radical surgery to change that" someone saying "Actually, maybe you should learn to be comfortable in your body, especially if your discomfort is being caused by your sexuality" is dangerous to your profit. Organisations like Stonewall & Mermaids have pretty much had it out for them from day one, in part because they can't stand gay people who won't toe the ideological line

[–]Newzok 3 insightful - 1 fun3 insightful - 0 fun4 insightful - 1 fun -  (0 children)

Definitely. I guess also TQ+ is nothing without the other letters attached. An LGB charity would likely get a good chunk of the stream by sheer numbers. But ya know, I think it's probably for the best. Its an extremely inflated bubble and other gays I know are sick of everything gay gradually turning trans.
