They live in a fantasy world, where changing what words mean can change reality if they just scream the altered words loudly enough in the face of everyone else. It's the kind of behavior I'd expect from a toddler who's just discovered that the word "no" exists.

It's an overt version of equivocation.

Equivocation has been used to coerce people into agreeing to things they didn't want.
Or to make legal or contractual mistakes, etc.
