Not even just the media/schools, since media and schools did so well for Gen X/Millennials to be tolerant and respectful of all groups of people, even those not like yourself and it worked- and then Gen Z started and it went the exact opposite way, while Gen Z claimed to be the most tolerant and respectful while outright spewing hate from either side of the coin.

The only explanation boils down to "the Gen X-Millennial parents made it clear they can tolerate, love, and respect their child no matter what they choose to be. The only thing they truly cannot tolerate or respect is intolerance/bigotry...and so if the only thing that'd make Mommy and Daddy hurt is if you grow up to be a racist or a -phobe or some kind...well, then looks like they have to become a racist/-phobe."

I call that the "Woodrow Wilson Effect." Ask anyone under, say, 50 about Wilson and you'll get endless and breathless detail about how he segregated the lunchroom at the Bureau of Engraving and made black elevator operators wear gloves or whatever. Meanwhile this guy was involved in cataclysmic events that shaped the world geopolitical stage, the way our nation is financed, etc. in profound ways, but even educated people know nothing of these things.

I'm not saying the guy was good, bad, or indifferent as a President or a man. I'm saying I have no fucking clue because once you've decided bigotry is the #1 most important thing there's no oxygen left in the room for discussion of anything else.

And even if you give in and let the discussion be about bigotry, it remains very superficial. Why did Wilson do these things? How did they relate to other things he said or did? We're all just expected to believe that some people are just stupid bigots and "progress" consists of outing these people and giving shit to their supposed victims.

That's completely separate to the real effect there, because the Gen X-Millennial approach was rooted in "hate cannot drive out hate, only love can do that." Bigotry wasn't the most important thing, but they could say "...it's kind of fucked up to hate someone for something they cannot change. Don't do that. And anyway, look at [insert celebrity they idolize/people in their area who are just good people at their heart]. You don't hate THEM, do you? Hate people who give you reason to hate them, not people who are just different from you." And that worked perfectly.

The difference is in modern times, it's done by hateful people- oftentimes, people openly doing it for personal glory instead of supremacy for any group luring useful idiots onto their side- telling them "nope, hating people for things they cannot change is perfectly fine, as long as they're the "other" to you. Actually, it's 100% justified due to history, and indeed doing so makes you the only true hero on this or any other world, and when we take over they will name high schools and build statues of you for being bigoted against these people". Then, because- again, these are idiots who will listen to anyone who might make Mommy and Daddy hurt or can promise them the life they see on affluence porn reality TV/social media, they buy into this shit.

I think that's pretty astute. At the bottom of it all, the problem isn't any particular ideology beyond "pick an enemy that will hurt mom and dad's feelings." In fact, mom and dad had tried hard to get away from the whole concept of looking for big enemies to blame, so the kiddo enemy-hunt of 2022 is something totally alien to them.

Of course. More than that, the most insidious part of it is: The GenX/Millennial method was built around nonviolent resistance and how it weaponized people being inherently good, then going "if you see people literally doing nothing wrong and daring the cops to attack us, and they do, the average person who is inherently good will take our side because they'll know we did nothing wrong. We trust you will do this because we know you are inherently good."

By contrast, the enemies now have weaponized how everyone's a good person by turning it to "if you don't give me everything I want, the second I want it, then you are a [insert -ist/-phobe]. You aren't one, are you? ARE YOU??? Either way, I trust you'll do it because you'd hate people thinking you're evil."...and not onhly do they lure the kids through that, but the kids take that logic for themselves [since they want to be rich, famous, popular, and desired, and feel entitled to get it for just being them.]
