I think voat serves its purpose and very much needs to exist. It's used primarily by people from banned subreddits spanning from 2015-2018 (notably FatPeopleHate, Coontown, Physical_Removal, altright, European, etc). Without this sort of containment website, they'll spill into websites with an emphasis on freedom of expression (such as this one), then every comment and post will just be people mindlessly fedposting. I don't like voat, but I am vehemently opposed to the idea of banning the site.

This article nails it. The CCP system means new users have an extremely difficult time. You're allowed a single comment and a single upvote per day until you can appease that hivemind and get some votes. I tried for a week, it became infuriating.

Same experience for me. Once you get a few downvotes it's all over, then you can't do anything. And this just creates a hivemind culture.

what happens if you start trying to create your own subculture in your own subverse rather than participating in an established culture in a way some apparently find not enjoyable? does it still not work?

I don't know if you're allowed to make your own subverse until you have 100 upvotes or something like that, so I think it's still limited by the hivemind effect

not welcoming, we tried to setup a community there and did not receive any support unlike here

they didnt really want to help us create the sub and accounts at the time there was limited registration too they just flat out refused to help in any way and we had to find a home fast or risk losing everyone

My Voat account has been stuck at ~95 CCP. I can agree with most of the article, but saying; 'Today, Voat is clearly a cesspool of hate, racism and extremist ideologies.' is an undeserved opinion. Mainstream platforms are similar, only their rhetoric is (((PC))).

Most people can't separate words from the message. The freedom to say nigger does not mean the person saying it hates all black people. It is a celebration of the ability to speak freely.

Nothing really wrong with Voat other than users can't create new SubVerses. The owner probably got paid off or threatened, so he has to shut it down.
