I can see it, I'm not big in to that type of use personally because it still promotes the content higher on the front page, so it's not really effective as a protest vote.

It would easily give off the impression that fun is discouraged since it's only valued at "half the price".

On sites with the same format as Saidit (reddit/voat/phuks/poal etc) they use subs as a guide if it's going to be funny or insightful - You wouldn't traditionally expect insightful posts in r/funny and vice versa in "serious" subs. What does the insightful/funny add that I'm not currently getting and wouldn't be solved by simply removing the downvote?

I personally enjoy uplifting and entertaining posts as much as (on saidit usually) desperately depressive, yet thought provoking and often necessary posts. Now that I know how the voting system works, I could easily start to upvote funny stuff with the insightful upvote AS WELL as the funny upvote since my personal preference dictates a 50/50 mix, but won't that quite easily and somewhat unintendedly defeat the entire purpose of the insightful/funny system?

Edit: https://saidit.net/s/SaidIt/comments/6ve/saidits_voting_system_why_its_awesome_and_how_to/gm4 shows what I mean. My single effort bumped it from the bottom to the top of the comments.

You have been white-faced.

I don't know what that means, could you elaborate?
