Seems like funny could be meant by some as ridicule on posts that would be hard to construe as such. Perhaps it really doesn't matter.

I can see it, I'm not big in to that type of use personally because it still promotes the content higher on the front page, so it's not really effective as a protest vote.

It would easily give off the impression that fun is discouraged since it's only valued at "half the price".

On sites with the same format as Saidit (reddit/voat/phuks/poal etc) they use subs as a guide if it's going to be funny or insightful - You wouldn't traditionally expect insightful posts in r/funny and vice versa in "serious" subs. What does the insightful/funny add that I'm not currently getting and wouldn't be solved by simply removing the downvote?

I personally enjoy uplifting and entertaining posts as much as (on saidit usually) desperately depressive, yet thought provoking and often necessary posts. Now that I know how the voting system works, I could easily start to upvote funny stuff with the insightful upvote AS WELL as the funny upvote since my personal preference dictates a 50/50 mix, but won't that quite easily and somewhat unintendedly defeat the entire purpose of the insightful/funny system?

Edit: https://saidit.net/s/SaidIt/comments/6ve/saidits_voting_system_why_its_awesome_and_how_to/gm4 shows what I mean. My single effort bumped it from the bottom to the top of the comments.

Sometimes funny things are insightful, sometimes they aren't. Just vote with what feels right.

Are you basing the authenticity of the post votes on the users integrity?

[–]magnora7[S] 1 insightful - 1 fun1 insightful - 0 fun2 insightful - 1 fun -  (13 children)

What do you mean exactly?

[–]ColdRoland 2 insightful - 1 fun2 insightful - 0 fun3 insightful - 1 fun -  (12 children)

How can you know that people aren't "Up-bulbed and funnied for maximum boosting!" instead of using the insightful/funny votes to help discern between serious and non-serious posts?

Are you trusting the users to not abuse the system?

[–]magnora7[S] 3 insightful - 2 fun3 insightful - 1 fun4 insightful - 2 fun -  (11 children)

Yeah? Of course some will abuse it, but most won't and it'll still be a useful thing

Just vote with what feels right.

I feel that you've added to the discussion but didn't see my point so I'll award you 1/2 point for your effort.

No system is 100% perfect for all situations. The Saidit voting system is non-punative.

Just vote with what feels right.

You have been white-faced.

White-facing you just felt right.

[–]magnora7[S] 1 insightful - 1 fun1 insightful - 0 fun2 insightful - 1 fun -  (6 children)

Was it funny? then why vote it funny? They're sorted differently...

[–]Mnemonic 2 insightful - 1 fun2 insightful - 0 fun3 insightful - 1 fun -  (0 children)

That would only work for the front page and with low user activity.

There is a funny tab that shows the top funny posts, so what more is there to want?

You have been white-faced.

[–]ColdRoland 2 insightful - 2 fun2 insightful - 1 fun3 insightful - 2 fun -  (0 children)

I don't know what that means, could you elaborate?
