I feel I ought to thank you for the reply, but I still don't really understand the negative attitude towards the question. Maybe I don't need to, that's ok, but I do find it somewhat confusing. Although less confusing now that I see that you were not quite accurately represented by the other user trying to describe your stances on things.

I also think this post is hugely illustrative of the downside of centralized platforms. Help us to federate reddit and we'll all be in a better place.

You mean that it's illustrative of the downside of centralization because it means people need to make sure the central node is honest and safe for them (motivation for questions like my OP)?

Are you all planning to make SaidIt decentralized? (note: I don't understand decentralization technology very well yet)

It's in poor taste to ask for personal information which has seemingly nothing to do with anything. Asking for personal information at all is pretty sketchy. Thus the common retort "nice try FBI". If I wanted to be on facebook, I'd be there and not on a reddit clone.

Yes. It's no good when a potential failure point for 20k people is 1 or 2 people. This has been the standard model, but it doesn't need to be this way. For example PeerTube and Mastodon don't have single points of failure.

Are you all planning to make SaidIt decentralized?

Yes, it's more of a goal than a plan at this point, it's a long ways out. If a nice decentralized reddit platform came out though, we'd also consider switching to it.

Well I guess that sense of "poor taste" might be different for different groups, but it sounds like you already understand my perspective to some degree if you can recognize that it's related to issues of centralization.

At any rate, like I said I never meant to demand a response, but is nice to get one so I feel I ought to say thank you.

You're welcome.
