She claims feminism has been co-opted by commercialism, and economic independence has become buying power; self-determination has become commodified self-improvement of "physical appearance, self-esteem and the fool's errand of reclaiming one's youth"; and public agency has been transformed into publicity (xv).

Yowsah. Spot on!!!

You know what I think about every time some kid does something violent and... it's the video games/movies/music...etc... lather rinse repeat...

I think of penny dreadfuls, the like OG violent, trashy entertainment, and how in 1880 a lawyer actually tried to have them banned because they were glamorizing the lives of pirates and scoundrels and encouraging children to run away and live as thieves... yep that 'think of the children' discourse has been running well over a hundred years.

Some things literally never change.

It's like the graffiti they finally managed to translate on the walls of Pompeii (oh everyone got so excited to see what the common man would write about his life and times)...

'I fucked many women here'

Phenomenal.

Same with feminist literature, some of it is still so on point even a hundred years later that it just is honestly horrific.
