As a high-end computer animator with SoftImage and Alias before quaternion rotations, this was a real problem in the 90s. Naturally we'd always find a work around for gimbal-lock or whatever problematic X-factors we'd come across. It was our job. We didn't like problems but we liked solving them, and if there was enough time left over we could finesse our product with pride. Little did we realize that our commercial art was also terrible propaganda, selling sugar to kids and pushing disposable products and consumer culture. I recon most of those friends I left behind realize much of this now, but they have families to feed, etc etc etc.

The gyroscopic images remind me of cymatic patterns made with sound waves.
