Maybe the companies should consider not defeating federally-mandated and state-mandated emissions controls?

I would be concerned about over reaching to tacitly force you to buy manufacturer's supply chain parts. For example, after-market air filters, brand and type of motor oil, lubricants for moving parts, etc. All could be rhetorically argued to be part of the list of controlled items. A disingenuous and unethical bureaucrat currying favor with the OEM companies would block as many competitors for the OEM companies as possible.
