It was reported by the BBC that British volunteer soldiers took their personal phones, which were tracked by Russians. Here is my response to someone in DAR - the original thread for which is further below:

You know why the Ukrainians were pissed off? Reports (onconfirmed, but got as far as BBC) indicate that British soldiers in those barracks brought their personal phones (like this chap has his personal phone) and the Russians easily tracked the phones to the barracks locations, and of course bombed the barracks. Those Brits died and many others were told to GTFO (because they endangered the other soldiers, with their personal phones). The bombed barracks had an estimated 80 soldiers. On the day this happened, the main official message from Ukraine was mainly (without further details): PLEASE DO NOT COME TO UKRAINE UNLESS YOU ARE APPROPRIATELY TRAINED SOLDIERS (ie. with the knowledge NOT to bring your personal phone, FFS). An estimated 20,000 volunteers have gone to Ukraine to fight. That barracks bombing was a huge setback for Ukraine, and there is no way they will tell that American with his personal phone anything other than, GTFO or we'll shoot you in the back. Thank you, however, for those two videos, as they remind me of those recent reports. And of course much of this information is raw and not easy to confirm. But we are getting more circumstantial evidence regularly.
