It's enlightening that all these socially engaged reddit types have not a clue what is going on with the stock market right now.

Likely the dad will be proved right.

Funny those same people rant about how terrible it is that company owners can be billionaires yet most of their wealth is in the same position as that father, a risk they wouldn't want to take themselves and look down on those who do.

I was shocked, where did all the apes go?

Almost certainly, if you zoom out these are just minor blips. In fact, it might turn out to be a better investment than his college education. After all, he's going to be in the red over a quarter of a million if he graduates in 4 years. If he's going to be a doctor that's no biggie, but it is if it's a lower paid position he's in for a world of debt.

Bill Gates losing 30% of his wealth doesn't affect him in any way. I guarantee what I (temporarily) lost hurt my finances a lot more.

But like Warren Buffet said, "The stock market is a device to transfer money from the impatient to the patient."

It only hurt you if you were planning to withdraw the money at certain date.

Needless to say I won't be buying a house over the next few months which is a bit upsetting seeing the good stuff in the auction catalogue this month.

True, I was more thinking of crypto since that went down with the stock market. I do use that sometimes because I generally don't keep cash around, wife would just spend it.

What the fuck is that sub. I’d disown my kid. That little shit.

It's a sub applying Reddit's usual terrible advice to absolving or condemning people.

One of the top ones right now is condemning a mom for not wanting her 14yr old to wear sexy underwear.
