Arguably it's worse in some of those more vibrant countries where every group looks after their own. You might have to use one name to apply for a job with a Hindu employer and another for Muslim employer and another for a Christian. At least in the West there's pretty much just one list of names which every employer wants to see no matter their personal ethnicity. And it's a big, varied list of names covering lots of cultures.
